Teachers: As you face the new school year, are you concerned with what the new normal will be? What about your students? More than ever before, the pandemic has made clear the high levels of stress and anxiety among teachers, students, parents, and all school staff. So what comes next? In this online workshop series, we present compelling evidence and practice SEL strategies to build your own inner resilience and re-discover joy in the classroom, for yourself, and your students.
Administrators: Are you looking for a culture shift to create a more resilient and joyful staff? What about yourself? As schools fully open, one thing is clear – returning to normal will not work to create a happy and confident staff, and responsible and engaged students. This workshop will provide insights and practice of SEL competencies for success.
For over 40 years Awakening Wisdom has helped schools create the conditions where students thrive by guiding educators to embody a set of universal principles and core values. This is what sets Awakening Wisdom apart from other SEL programs, the fact that Awakening Wisdom is not a program at all. Our approach is about exploring and shifting old mindsets toward new and more positive habits of mind. With this re-discovery of purpose and wisdom, we can begin to understand how role modeling the very values we expect of students ensures a school’s stated vision becomes a reality.
Classroom teachers will explore their North Star, a desired profile of students, and learn how to set up classroom Trust Agreements to create the necessary space to launch the journey of cultural transformation. These mutually crafted agreements form the foundation for classroom management strategies where students take responsibility for their actions and learn from their mistakes in a climate of mutual respect.
Administrators, this is an opportunity to take a deep breath and join our community as an empowered human instead of carrying the weight of your title and position. You will learn and practice the art of deep empathic listening and responsible, responsive speaking to create collaborative, trusting working relationships to co-create with your faculty a school culture that is effective in realizing your mission. Feel a sense of renewal as you also learn how to respond effectively to conflicts for mutually satisfying results.
Because Awakening Wisdom is a school culture approach to social emotional wellbeing, it helps educators respond to the challenges of a pandemic. Administrators had their plates full of myriad tasks pre-Covid and now must respond urgently to the social and emotional needs of their teachers and students. This online course is designed to address administrators’ self care so that they are able to care for their teachers and students to thrive.
The six-sessions will include:
– The foundations of resilience to inculcate into their schools’ culture.
– The habits of mind that nurture self-care.
– A collaborative and listening space for sharing concerns and solutions.
